Listen to a talk about health problems among teenagers and choose the best answer.
Unit 5: Healthy Living
Host: Good morning, everyone. Today we're talking about health problems among teenagers. Dr. Nguyen, what are the most common issues you see?
Dr. Nguyen: Well, the biggest problem is that most teenagers don't get enough sleep. Studies show that about 70% of teenagers sleep less than they should. This is very concerning.
Host: How much sleep do teenagers need?
Dr. Nguyen: Teenagers need 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night. But many only get 5 or 6 hours because they stay up late using their phones or computers.
Host: What happens when teens don't sleep enough?
Dr. Nguyen: There are many negative effects. They often have poor concentration at school, which affects their grades. They may also experience headaches and feel tired all day. And research shows that lack of sleep can lead to weight gain because it affects hormones that control appetite.
Host: That's serious! What advice do you have for teenagers?
Dr. Nguyen: My main advice is to avoid screens before bed. The blue light from phones and computers makes it harder to fall asleep. Turn off your devices at least one hour before bedtime. Also, try to keep a regular sleep schedule - go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
Host: Thank you, Dr. Nguyen. That's very helpful advice for our young listeners.
